The United States registers more than 3,700 new deaths and 220,000 cases of covid-19

Washington – The United States, the country most affected by the pandemic in the world, reached 23,724,585 cases of covid-19 and 395,385 deaths this Saturday, according to the independent count of Johns Hopkins University.
These figures, which correspond to 8:00 p.m. local time on Saturday (01:00 GMT on Sunday), represent 220,998 more infections than the previous day and 3,761 additional deaths.
The number of new daily deaths is one of the highest in recent days, although it does not exceed the record of 4,085 deaths registered in a single day, on January 7, according to Johns Hopkins.
New York state remains the worst hit in the country by the pandemic with 40,806 deaths, followed by California, which is now second in the statistics with 33,077, Texas (32,428), Florida (24,004) and New Jersey (20,320).
Other states with large numbers of deaths are Illinois (20,020), Pennsylvania (19,143), Michigan (14,669), Massachusetts (13,583) and Georgia (12,291).
In terms of infections, California adds 2,938,931 positives, followed by Texas with 2,107,013, Florida is third with 1,560,186, New York in fourth place with 1,228,867 and Illinios is fifth, with 1,064,667 cases.
The provisional death toll -395,385- far exceeds the lower limit of the initial estimates of the White House, which in the best of cases projected between 100,000 and 240,000 deaths from the pandemic.
The outgoing US president, Donald Trump, lowered those estimates and was confident that the final figure would be between 50,000 and 60,000 deaths, although later he predicted up to 110,000 deaths, a number that has also been far exceeded .
For its part, the Institute for Health Metrics and Assessments (IHME) at the University of Washington, whose models for predicting the evolution of the pandemic are often set by the White House, calculates that when Trump leaves power this Wednesday 20 more than 405,000 people will have died and by April 1, more than 555,000.
