The 18-year-old posted on his social networks a photo armed before the massacre at the Uvalde primary school

Texas Governor Greg Abbott identified the perpetrator of the massacre at a school in the town of Uvalde, Texas (USA) , as Salvador Ramos , an 18-year-old who was attending high school.

Moments before carrying out the attack, in which he killed at least 14 students and a teacher, Ramos shared a photo with two rifles on his social networks.

The attacker was killed by local police.

The assailant “horribly and incomprehensibly shot and killed 14 students and killed a teacher ,” Abbott told a news conference. The governor added that the shooter was a member of the community and entered the school with a pistol, and possibly a rifle , and opened fire. The school was attended by children in the second, third and fourth grades of primary school. This Friday the students began their summer vacation.

Before the attack at the school, Ramos killed his grandmother, according to Abbott. Uvalde School District Police Chief Pete Arredondo said at a news conference that at this point in the investigation they believe the shooter acted alone in this “heinous” crime.

Arredondo explained that the attack on the Robb Elementary School, where children between the ages of 7 and 10 study, occurred at around 11:37 local time (4:37 p.m. GMT).

The Uvalde Memorial Hospital health center said in a statement on Facebook that 13 injured people were taken to its facilities by ambulance or bus, while two of the 15 fatalities had already died on arrival at the hospital. Another health center, University Health, tweeted that it is treating two patients injured in the shooting at that school, a minor and an adult, and that they are being examined.

The adult, a 66-year-old woman, is in serious condition , while the minor’s condition is currently unknown.

United States President Joe Biden has ordered that the country’s flags fly at half-staff.

Biden, who is returning to his country after his tour of Asia, ordered that the measure apply in the White House, as well as in all official buildings, military installations and warships until sunset on May 28. In a statement, he announced that he made this decision as a “show of respect for the victims of the senseless acts of violence perpetrated on May 24, 2022 by a shooter at Robb Elementary School in Uvalde, Texas.”

“Enough is enough,” said US Vice President Kamala Harris , calling for “action” on gun control. “Our hearts continue to break,” she said, referring to the litany of school shootings in the United States . “We have to have the courage to act.”
