David Pape, the attacker of Nancy Pelosi’s husband, must appear in a trial for violent assault on Paul Pelosi

The man accused of attacking Paul Pelosi, the husband of House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, said there was “evil in Washington” and that he had also planned to attack Hunter Biden, President Joe Biden’s son, Governor of California Gavin Newsom and actor Tom Hanks, a San Francisco Police Department official testified at a preliminary hearing Wednesday, according to CNN.

“There is evil in Washington, what they did was way beyond the campaign. It stems from Hillary (Clinton),” David DePape told San Francisco Police Department Lt. Carla Hurley in an interview conducted after the attack, Hurley testified during a preliminary hearing Wednesday, according to affiliate KPIX. from CNN.

“Honestly, day after day, they are lying. They go from one crime to another crime to another crime,” DePape added at the time, according to Hurley. DePape allegedly also planned to kidnap Hunter Biden to discuss “all the corruption” in Washington.

The revelations came before a judge ruled Wednesday that prosecutors have shown enough evidence against DePape to bring his case to trial on state charges.

“DePape has to answer to all charges and accusations,” the San Francisco District Attorney’s Office said in a statement.

DePape attacked Paul Pelosi on Oct. 28 with a hammer at the couple’s San Francisco home in late October while searching for the House speaker, according to court documents. After the attack, Paul Pelosi underwent surgery “to repair a fractured skull and serious injuries to his right arm and hands,” Drew Hammill, a spokesman for Nancy Pelosi, said at the time.

DePape previously pleaded not guilty to all state and federal charges.

Locally, DePape faces attempted murder, assault, assault and a host of other charges related to the attack in which he struck Paul Pelosi with a hammer, breaking his skull, before police officers came to arrest him.

Meanwhile, there is a parallel prosecution in federal court where the Richmond man has been charged with assault and attempted kidnapping. He has pleaded not guilty to those charges and is being held without bail.
