Pope Francis reappeared today, after the sciatica attack that has prevented him from celebrating Mass this Sunday, and denounced the recent death from cold of a homeless person of Nigerian nationality “abandoned by all ” in Rome.

The pontiff referred to this man by name, Edwin, 46, Nigerian, found dead from cold on January 20 a few meters from St. Peter’s Square, he explained at the end of the Sunday Angelus prayer.
“His fact is added to that of many other homeless people recently killed in Rome in the same dramatic circumstances. Let us pray for Edwin. Let us think about what this 46-year-old man felt in the cold, ignored by all, also abandoned by us,” he urged.
Francisco has always been concerned about the situation of these people and in the square he has opened showers and a barber shop, and recently inaugurated a residence to welcome beggars in the capital in a nearby palace from the 19th century.
In addition, last Wednesday twenty-five homeless were vaccinated against the coronavirus in the Vatican.
The pontiff has celebrated the Angelus prayer despite suffering a new attack of sciatica that has prevented him from officiating the mass this Sunday and postponing the meeting with the diplomatic corps on Monday, among other events.
In his catechesis before the Angelus, Francis urged to change the mentality of the world and to avoid “the sin of worldliness” that “like the air invades everything” and causes “deception, violence, greed, lust for power and not for service, wars and exploitation “.
The pope also had words for journalists, on the feast of Saint Francis de Sales, his patron, and encouraged them to “go and see the places where no one wants to go” to tell “truthfully” the events of the world.
And he encouraged families who are struggling financially in the crisis due to the pandemic.
