The president and first lady of the United States, Joe and Jill Biden, went on vacation to Nantucket, an island in Massachusetts, to celebrate the Thanksgiving holiday at the home of a multimillionaire friend.

The presidential couple, who left the White House last night, dawned already this Wednesday in Nantucket, where the Biden family will spend a few days of rest until next Sunday, when they will return to the U.S. capital.

For this reason, President Biden was today the great absentee at the virtual summit of G20 leaders convened by the host India and in which the Russian president, Vladimir Putin, did participate.

The Biden’s are scheduled to call members of the U.S. military on Thanksgiving Thursday to thank them for their service.

The president and his wife have spent the holiday every year since 1975 at the Nantucket home of their billionaire friend David Rubenstein, co-founder of the private investment firm Carlyle Group.

In keeping with the annual tradition, Biden on Monday at the White House pardoned two turkeys that, thanks to a presidential pardon, will not be slaughtered for Thanksgiving dinner.

The pardoning of the turkeys also coincided with the 81st birthday of Joe Biden, who during his speech at Monday’s event joked several times about his advanced age.

During these dates in the United States millions of turkeys are consumed, which are the star dish of Thanksgiving dinner, which every fourth Thursday of November commemorates a 1621 dinner between British and Indian settlers.
