Some Social Security beneficiaries will receive two payments in August, one at the beginning and one at the end of each month. Here are the details.
Each month, the Social Security Administration (SSA) sends benefits for retired workers, survivors, and those receiving Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) and Supplemental Security Income (SSI) payments.
Generally, SSA sends only one payment per month, but in certain months two payments are sent, one at the beginning and one at the end. Here’s who gets two payments in August.
Who will receive a double Social Security payment in August?
Supplemental Security Income (SSI) recipients will receive two payments in August. This is because the September payment will be moved up because it falls on a weekend.
According to the SSA payment schedule, SSI benefits are sent on the first day of each month. However, if the first day is a Saturday, Sunday or holiday, payments are sent out earlier on the first preceding business day.
The first SSI payment of the month is sent on August 1. On the other hand, because September 1 is a Sunday, the mailing of that month’s payment is advanced to the first preceding business day, so it is sent from Friday, August 30.
Due to the September payment being brought forward, in that month, SSI beneficiaries will no longer receive money. The next payment would be until October 1. Here is the complete August payment schedule:
- Thursday, August 1: SSI recipients.
- Friday, August 2: Beneficiaries who began receiving their payments before May 1997
- Wednesday, August 14: Beneficiaries with dates of birth between 1 and 10
- Wednesday, August 21: Beneficiaries with a date of birth between 11 and 20
- Wednesday, August 28: Beneficiaries with date of birth between 21 and 31
- Friday, August 30: SSI recipients (September payment)
How much money is sent from Supplemental Security Income (SSI)?
This year, the maximum Supplemental Security Income (SSI) benefits went up to $943 for individuals and $1,415 for couples, but the specific amount depends on each beneficiary.
