Following pressure from Republicans and their supporters in the wake of the attempted assassination attempt on Trump, Secret Service Director Kimberly Cheatle.

Following pressure from Republicans and their supporters in the wake of the assassination attempt on former President Donald Trump at a rally in Pennsylvania, Secret Service Director Kimberly Cheatle has resigned effective immediately, NBC News scooped.

Cheatle’s resignation comes after receiving criticism from various members of a House committee during one of the hearings on Secret Service actions leading up to Donald Trump’s July 13 rally.

Interestingly, at that same hearing, Cheatle had refused to resign, arguing that she was the “most qualified” person to lead the federal agency. However, the official changed her mind during the early hours of this Tuesday, when she sent a letter to Secret Service personnel, resigning from her position.

“In light of recent events, it is with great regret that I have made the difficult decision to resign as Director,” the letter reads. ”The solemn mission of the Secret Service is to protect our nation’s leaders and financial infrastructure. On July 13, we did not fulfill that mission,” Cheatle wrote.

Kimberly Cheatle takes “full responsibility” for Trump attack

Throughout the brief, Chaetle takes responsibility for the Secret Service security lapse that led to the assassination attempt on Donald Trump: “The scrutiny over the past week has been intense and will continue to be intense as our operational tempo increases. As your Director, I take full responsibility for the failure,” she said.

This is how the attack against Donald Trump took place

Last July 13, former President Trump was the victim of an attack. The Republican presidential candidate was holding a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, when a 20-year-old man, identified as Thomas Crooks, opened fire on the stage. Thanks to Trump turning his head toward a graphic on immigration, the ammunition only grazed his right ear. The attack left one fatality, in addition to the shooter, and two men seriously injured.
