Patrick D. Medlin was sentenced to three life sentences after committing a series of atrocities against a woman in Skiatook, a community located in Tulsa County.

A 48-year-old Oklahoma man will spend the rest of his days behind bars after being convicted of 10 felonies for kidnapping a mother and subjecting her to torture and abuse described as abhorrent.

District Court Judge Michelle L. Keely ordered Patrick D. Medlin to serve three life sentences for a series of “atrocities” he committed in 2020 in Skiatook, a community located in Tulsa County.

Last September, a jury found Medlin guilty of two counts of rape, as well as other charges of mutilation, sexual battery, kidnapping and child neglect.

It was in April 2020 when Skiatook Police Department officers responded to a phone call reporting a woman who had been kidnapped and sexually assaulted.

Upon arriving at the scene, officers found Medlin and the victim, whose identity was not released. They arrested the man and transported the woman to a hospital to receive treatment for her numerous injuries.

He used various methods of torture

According to a press release from the prosecution, evidence during the trial showed that Medlin, among other things, “tied up, raped and assaulted the victim.” Prosecutors said they were also able to establish that Medlin used a baseball bat, tweezers, a hammer and pliers to inflict physical and emotional suffering on the woman.

The child neglect charge stemmed from the defendant exposing the victim’s 13-year-old son to illegal activities, without specifying which ones, local media outlets such as Fox23 News reported.

Judge Keely handed down sentences of life in prison without the possibility of parole for each of the two rape charges, as well as life in prison for the mutilation charge, and all three sentences will run consecutively.

Under Oklahoma law, mutilation is when an individual with “the premeditated purpose of harming another” inflicts “any injury that disfigures his personal appearance or disables any member or organ of his body or seriously diminishes his physical vigor.”

“This was a heinous crime that caused unimaginable physical and mental pain to the victim,” said Tulsa County Assistant District Attorney Leyna Churchill. “We are grateful that the jury held Mr. Medlin accountable for the atrocities he committed. It took a long time to get this far, but we believe justice was achieved,” she added.

“Sexual assault cases are often challenging and present unique obstacles,” Tulsa County Assistant District Attorney Ashley Nix said in a statement after Medlin was convicted.

“The evidence in this case was difficult to hear and we appreciate the jury’s consideration and attention throughout the trial. We hope that the justice presented in this case will help the victim heal as she moves forward with her life,” she added.
