Houston (USA), Jan 17 – This time there were no surprises in the second week of the National Football League (NFL) playoffs, in which the teams with the field advantage and favorites, the Green Bay Packers and the Buffalo Bills made good the predictions by achieving two wins that put them in the finals of their respective National and American Conferences.
Although their arrival in the fight for the title took very different paths, in terms of the game they developed on the field and that allowed them to take one more step to reach Super Bowl LV.
As expected, amid the cold, wind and sub-zero temperatures, quarterback Aaron Rodgers threw two touchdown passes and ran for another, which gave the Packers a 32-18 victory over the Los Angeles Rams in a game. of the NFC Divisional Round.
With their victory, the Packers reach the NFCa National Championship match for the fourth time in the past seven seasons, and they continue in pursuit of the Super Bowl in a decade.
It will be the first conference championship game at “Lambeau Field” since they hosted the 2007 season, when they lost 20-23 to the New York Giants in overtime.
Green Bay won the 2010 Super Bowl season as sixth-ranked in the National, and has lost in Seattle, Atlanta and San Francisco in its last three appearances.
The Packers leave their mark at 14-3 so far this season, while the Rams were eliminated with numbers of 11-7, in what was a season full of ups and downs.
Rodgers was 23 of 36 for 296 yards, was always in control of the Packers’ winning offense and took the singles match with Rams starting quarterback Jared Goff.
While running back Aaron Jones advanced 99 yards on the ground and scored a touchdown after completing 14 carries.
Rodgers’ touchdown run was the first by a Packers quarterback in a playoff game at Lambeau Field since Bart Starr’s winning Ice Bowl getaway against the Dallas Cowboys on December 31, 1967.
Goff couldn’t enjoy the win by completing 21 of 27 passes for 174 yards and a touchdown, less than three weeks after undergoing thumb surgery on his right hand, with which he throws, earning him the respect of his team.
In the game at Orchard Park, cornerback Taron Johnson intercepted with 41 seconds remaining in the third quarter and the Bills beat the Baltimore Ravens 17-3 to secure their first AFC championship appearance in 27 years.
The Bills advanced to the AFC game for the first time since 1994.
Buffalo also extended a season in which it has broken numerous droughts by claiming its first East Division title in 25 years and, with last week’s win over the Indianapolis Colts, winning its first postseason game since the same year.
The Bills will play next week against the winner of the second game of the AFC Divisional Round between the Kansas City Chiefs, reigning Super Bowl champions, and the Cleveland Browns.
Buffalo has won eight games in a row, matching its best streak since 1990.
The 13 regular season victories equaled a franchise record set in both 1990 and 1991 in a season in which they set numerous offensive records in a single season, including scoring 501 points.
The 101-yard interception return equaled the longest in NFL history and marked a stellar defensive outing from Buffalo (15-3).
Bills quarterback Josh Allen completed 23 of 37 passes for 206 yards with a touchdown pass.
While Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson did not return to the field after suffering a concussion on the last play of the third quarter, and two after Johnson achieved the decisive touchdown.
