The heroic Duck led the investigators to the body of the victim, who remained untraceable
Without the Duck, the culprits of this sordid crime might not have been caught. In Buncombe County, North Carolina, the police were finally able to solve, more than a year after the events, the case of the disappearance of Nellie Sullivan, a nonagenarian who had no longer given sign of life since December 2020.
The body of the victim found at her granddaughter’s house
As reported by Le Matin, to achieve this result, the police, however, benefited from the unexpected help of a duck. During their investigations, the investigators had thus questioned the little girl of the disappeared and her spouse, who gave them information directing them on what had turned out to be a false lead.
Having noticed the deception, the police therefore returned to the couple’s home. Upon arriving at the subject land, the officers first “attempted to catch a fleeing ‘domestic duck'”, in doing so, the animal ended up leading them “under a trailer”. There, investigators discovered a container, in which was the body of Nellie Sullivan.
“If I could give this duck a medal, I would”
The granddaughter of the deceased and her spouse were therefore arrested. According to Le Matin, they are suspected of having killed the victim to recover “the money for her social security and her retirement”. “Instead of receiving the care she needed from those who are supposed to love her the most, she received the exact opposite in the worst possible way,” commented County Sheriff’s Office Sergeant Mark Walker of Buncombe.
Placed in detention, the two suspects are the subject of several counts for which they will be judged at the end of the investigation, which will have to determine in particular the circumstances of the death. As for the duck who played a decisive role in the discovery of the body, the story does not say whether he received a reward commensurate with his valuable contribution.
“If I could give this duck a medal, I would,” said Sergeant Walker, grateful.
