A sad shooting at Kentucky State University left one student dead and another hurt bad. It happened on campus during finals week. Police caught one person who did it. The school locked down right away to keep everyone safe.
The bad event took place around 3:35 p.m. near Young Hall, where students live. Two KSU students got shot. One died at the hospital. The other is in the ICU but doing a bit better now. The shooter was not a student at the school, police said.
Frankfort cops, school police, and the county sheriff’s team got there fast. They closed off the area and took the suspect into custody. No one else got hurt. The lockdown lasted for hours while they checked things out.
Michael R. DeCourcy, who speaks for the school, told news folks: “The victims are KSU students. The shooter is not.” Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear shared on X: “We pray for those affected.” He feels bad for the families.
Kentucky State is a special school. It started in 1886 for Black students. Now it has more than 2,200 kids learning there and 450 workers. The campus is big, about 1,000 acres. This shooting comes after another one in August near the same spot. Back then, two people who don’t go to school got hurt in a fight.
Lately, other Black colleges have had trouble too. Like at Howard University and Lincoln University. It makes people worry about safety on these grounds.
The school is still looking into what happened. They want to know why it went down. Right now, classes are off, and folks can get help from counselors.
This hits hard for the whole community. Friends and family are sad and scared. Police say they will keep working to find out more. Everyone hopes for peace and no more pain.
