Johnny Depp vs. Amber Heard

One of the most spectacular court cases of recent years is coming to an end. Johnny Depp and Amber Heard’s defamation trial has concluded after seven intense weeks. On Friday, both sides made their closing arguments and addressed the jury one last time.

What happens now is in the hands of 7 selected jurors. They will consult over the weekend and announce their decision on Tuesday. Johnny Depp scored a high-profile and moral victory during the trial when the DC boss announced on the witness stand that Heard would lose her starring role in the upcoming Aquaman movie.

However, what will be really decisive is the legal decision made by the jury. Johnny Depp sued Amber Heard for $50 million for defamation, and she subsequently sued him for $100 million.

Closing argument from Heard’s attorney

“Think of the message Mr Depp and his lawyers are sending to Amber and the victims of domestic violence. If you didn’t take photos, it didn’t happen. If you didn’t get medical help, you weren’t hurt. Depp cannot and does not want to take any responsibility. It’s all someone else’s fault. If Amber was abused by Mr. Depp just once, then she wins, and we’re not just talking about physical abuse, we’re talking about psychological, sexual abuse.”

He then references a text message from Johnny Depp to Amber Heard. There the actor is said to have spoken in a rough tone to his ex-wife: “The most hideous, disgusting language imaginable. Those words are a window into the hearts and minds of America’s favorite pirates. This is the real Johnny Depp.”

Closing argument by Depp’s lawyer

“Amber Heard ruined his life by falsely telling the world she was a survivor of domestic abuse at the hands of Mr Depp. She came into this courtroom ready to give the performance of her life. And she gave it.”

“What we have is a mountain of unproven allegations that are wild, exaggerated and implausible. And you can’t choose which of these wild claims to believe and which to ignore. You either believe all of it or none of it. You have now met the real Amber Heard. Scary!”
