Berlin, Jan 17 (EFE) .- The German authorities today communicated 13,882 new positives of covid-19 and 445 fatalities, figures lower than in recent days, which is attributed so much to the fact that the calculation of data at the weekend it is partial as to a certain slowdown of cases.

The total number of deaths with or from covid-19 since the beginning of the pandemic stands at 46,419 and that of infections reaches 2,033,518, according to data from the Robert Koch Institute (RKI) of virology.
The cumulative incidence of new cases, for a week and 100,000 inhabitants, thus remains at 136.
The maximum daily mark of fatalities was registered last Thursday, with 1,244 deaths, while that of infections was reported on December 18, with 33,777 new infections.
The maximum incidence was reported on December 22, with 197.6 cases in seven days per 100,000 inhabitants. From 50 weekly cases, the RKI considers that it is in a risk zone.
PROLONGATION OF RESTRICTIONS OR NEW MEASURES
German Chancellor Angela Merkel will meet with regional leaders next Tuesday, a week ahead of schedule, to analyze the evolution of the pandemic.
Both from the “Länder” – federated states – and from the federal government it has been pointed out that the meeting may lead to an extension of the current restrictions or new measures.
Despite the slowdown in new cases, there is fear of an expansion of the new British or South African variants.
Since the beginning of November all leisure, cultural life and gastronomy have been closed, a situation that was expanded with the entry in December to all commercial activity or non-essential services.
School activity in person has not resumed after the Christmas holidays, which lasted a week longer than usual to try to contain the infections.
At the beginning of the year, Merkel and regional leaders agreed to keep the measures in place throughout January. Mobility restrictions were also agreed upon – a radius of 15 kilometers around the affected town or district – where the weekly incidence of 200 cases per 100,000 inhabitants is exceeded.
Among the new measures being considered is the obligation to use FFP2 masks in public transport and shops or to extend the restrictions on mobility in the most affected areas.
