To celebrate the arrival of summer, Kroger is giving away thousands of free pints of ice cream on June 20. Find out how you can get yours.
One of our favorite times of the year is upon us. The northern hemisphere is living the last days of spring to make way for the warmest season and the longest vacation period in the United States: Summer. To commemorate the arrival of the first solstice of the year, supermarket chain Kroger will be giving away tens of thousands of pints of its branded ice cream next Thursday, June 20.
“Summer means more time with family, more time by the pool and more time enjoying our favorite treats, and nothing says a perfect summer day like sunshine and Kroger brand ice cream,” said Juan De Paoli, vice president of brands for Kroger. “With more sunshine to enjoy a sweet treat, we’ll be giving away ice cream for 15 hours straight; that’s a whole lot of free ice cream,” he added.
In total, Kroger will offer 45,000 pints of Kroger-branded ice cream in honor of the number of daylight hours in the day: 15 daylight hours = 900 minutes, which equals 50 pints of ice cream per minute. The pints include Deluxe and Classic brand flavors; but how can you get your free ice cream? We explain.
Here’s how you can get free ice cream from Kroger this June 20
Customers who want to get their free ice cream must download a digital coupon from the promotion’s website. The coupons are single-use only and will be available on the website starting June 20. Once you have your coupon, you can redeem it for a free pint at any Kroger location nationwide. The promotion will be valid while supplies last.
When does summer kick off?
In the U.S. and the rest of the Northern Hemisphere, the summer solstice will begin on Thursday, June 20, at 4:51 p.m. ET. ET. Throughout the year, the Earth has two equinoxes and two solstices, which mark the beginning of the four seasons of the year. The solstices correspond to winter and summer and the equinoxes to spring and fall.
