MADRID, 16 (EUROPA PRESS)

One in ten children is trapped in harmful work, despite the fact that child labor has decreased significantly in the last decade, so the UN urges to end this “scourge” that “robs children of their future “.

The United Nations World Labor Organization (UNWTO) has recalled that 152 million children are still affected by child labor – a considerable reduction from the 246 million in 2000 – a situation that may be exacerbated by the pandemic.

Some 72 million children work in Africa, representing almost half of the world total, followed by Asia and the Pacific, home to 62 million child laborers.

School closings and deepening poverty threaten to “reverse years of progress,” ILO Director General Guy Ryder has warned.

To completely end this scourge of society, the organization has launched the ‘International Year for the Eradication of Child Labor’, which seeks to promote concrete legislative actions to achieve this objective.
