Several floods registered this weekend in the north of the state of California (USA) due to the impact of heavy rains, some 380,000 homes and businesses were without electricity.

According to data this Monday from PG&E, the largest electricity supplier in the United States and the portal poweroutage.us, which collects the number of power outages registered at the national level, as of early Monday there were still 175,000 without supply buildings.

In a statement, PG&E noted that the Bay Area, where San Francisco is located, was the hardest hit by these power outages, especially San Mateo, Santa Clara and Marin counties.

However, he warned that customers from other counties located further south of that city could face “possible cuts” throughout this Monday, depending on the evolution of the storm.

According to images from local US media, floods toppled several power poles in that region, caused landslides and overflowed rivers in Napa and Sonoma counties.

These circumstances also resulted in the evacuations of thousands of people in San Francisco, Santa Bárbara, San Rafael and Santa Rosa.

In addition, local authorities decided to cut a highway and several roads due to landslides, including in Plumas County, where the Dixie fire, the second largest in California history, left a lot of debris.

The alert about these landslides reached such a point that the National Weather Service (NWS, in its acronym in English) in Sacramento, the state capital, recommended this Sunday to several residents that they take refuge “on the highest floor of their house”, instead of trying to escape.

“If you are near the remains of the fire it may be too late to evacuate: do not try to cross a debris flow and take refuge on the highest floor of your house,” the NWS warned on its Twitter account.
