Washington, Jan 13 – The US president, Joe Biden, will give the State of the Union address on February 7, after receiving this Friday, as established by protocol, the invitation of the majority leader in the House Come down, Republican Kevin McCarthy.

White House spokeswoman Karine Jean-Pierre reported in her daily press conference that the president has accepted McCarthy’s invitation to hold this speech on that date.

In her letter, the president of the House of Representatives recalled that a new Congress was inaugurated this year after the mid-term elections last November in which the Republicans regained control of that chamber.

“This year brings a new Congress, and with it, the responsibility to work for an economy that is strong, that is secure, for a future that is built on freedom, and for an accountable government,” McCarthy said.

He assured that the American people have sent them to Washington to “give a new direction to the country, to find common ground and discuss their priorities.”

To that end, he added in the letter, he invited Biden to deliver the speech on February 7 in a joint session of the two houses of Congress so that he can fulfill his constitutional duty to report on the state of the Union and “of the efforts to address the priorities of the American people.

The State of the Union address is one of the most important ceremonies in American politics.

According to tradition, the president addresses the two chambers of Congress meeting in the same hemicycle, together with the members of the Supreme Court, to establish his priorities for the coming year and request the collaboration of the Legislature.
