Legendary American producer Phil Spector, who revolutionized pop music in the 1960s but ended up in prison with the murder of an actress, passed away at 81, California prison authorities reported.

Spector was pronounced dead on Saturday and his “official cause of death will be determined by the forensic doctor ”, according to a statement from the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation.
