Alavés were beaten 5-0 by second division Almería this Saturday in the round of 32 of the Copa del Rey, from which they were defeated.

A double by Nigerian Sadiq Umar (8, 45 + 1), a goal by Ager Aketxe (45), an own goal by Argentine Rodrigo Battaglia (52) and a final penalty goal by Juan Villar (81) awaited the premiere by Abelardo Fernández on the Alava bench.

The Asturian coach, who returned to Alavés after Pablo Machín’s dismissal on Monday, could not have had a worse start, against the third-placed in the silver division of Spanish football.

Alavés, who are two points behind the relegation places in LaLiga, was unable to overcome the pressure and intensity of Almería in a game that played with ten for almost an hour after the expulsion of Tomás Pina (35).
