LONDON, Jan 18 (Reuters) – An airship depicting US President Donald Trump as a growling orange baby in diapers has found a place in one of London’s most popular museums.

The helium-inflated balloon, originally funded through crowdfunding, first rose to the skies over London during protests against Trump’s visit in 2018 and has traveled to other countries including France, Argentina, Ireland and Denmark.

Happily accepting the donation, the Museum of London said the airship would join its protest collection, which includes artifacts from the Suffragette movement, which advocated for women’s voting rights, as well as demonstrations for climate change and peace.

“By receiving the baby blimp, we can remember the sensations that took over the city that day and capture a particular moment of resistance,” said Sharon Ament, director of the museum.

“From the suffragettes of the early 20th century, to the marches against austerity, freedom of speech and more recently Black Lives Matter, the capital has always been the place to speak.”

The creators of the airship said they hope it would serve as a reminder of the fight against the “politics of hate.”

“While we are pleased that the ‘Trump Baby’ can now be brought down in history alongside the person himself, we have no illusions that this is the end of the story,” commented the organizers, who include Leo Murray, a climate activist.

“We hope the baby’s place in the museum is a reminder of when London stood up to Trump, but will prompt those who see him to examine how they can continue the fight.”

Donald Trump will step down as president this week, leaving the United States deeply divided after four tumultuous years in which he pulled the country out of a global deal on climate change, imposed tough immigration policies, launched a trade war with China and downplayed its importance. to the devastating COVID-19 pandemic.
