Times Square had to be partially closed this Sunday after a strong explosion that caused panic among those present, who began to flee scared in a stampede that, luckily, left no injuries .

New York authorities confirmed that it was due to a fire caused in three sewers near the square.

According to CBS, a cable fault was what caused the explosion and the fire in one of the sewers, although the smoke came out through up to three of them.

Firefighters evacuated everyone present, closed a part of the mythical square for safety and checked several floors of a nearby office building where high levels of carbon monoxide had been found.
