A fifth grade student was detained by Florida police, USA, after threatening, via text messages, to carry out a shooting at his elementary school. The officers took him in handcuffs to the sheriff’s office.

The 10-year-old minor, whose name has not been revealed, was arrested on Saturday after assuring that he would attack his Patriot Elementary School, in Cape Coral, noted the New York Post.

“This student’s behavior is disgusting, especially after the recent tragedy in Uvalde, Texas,” Lee County Sheriff Carmine Marceno said in a statement. “Making sure our children are safe is paramount,” continuous.

The Sheriff’s Office School Threat Enforcement Team became aware of the alarming situation and requested support from the Juvenile Services Criminal Investigations Division to act upon the student’s arrest.

Marceno said officers were quick to investigate threats of mass shootings.

“We will have law and order in our schools! My team did not hesitate for a second. NOT A SECOND, to investigate this threat,” said.

The sheriff’s comments come after US authorities faced an angry backlash for their late response to the school shooting in Uvalde in Texas which claimed the lives of 19 fourth grade students and two teachers.

“Right now is not the time to act like a petty criminal. He is not funny”, said marceno. “This child made a false threat and is now experiencing real consequences,” Marceno sentenced.

Detectives interviewed the Florida boy and developed probable cause for his arrest, police said.
