Even though a lot of people saw it coming the success of Oshi no KoI think few expected such an explosion in popularity. The anime adaptation of the Kaguya-sama creator’s latest manga: Love Is War caused a stir with its 90-minute prologue, and today hundreds of thousands of people are eagerly awaiting Wednesday’s arrival to enjoy a new episode.
Now that this anime manga is on everyone’s lips, I think it’s the best time to mention some curiosities that I didn’t even know about and that could be very interesting for fans. Why has Oshi no Ko’s name not been translated into English or Spanish? The answer is quite simple and particular at the same time.
The meaning of the title ‘Oshi no Ko’

- One of the most important is the double meaning of the name ‘Oshi no Ko’which explains the fact that it has not been translated into other languages
- Depending on how you read it, Oshi no Ko can mean two different things in Japanese.:
- 1. suki na aidoru wo osu (Support your favorite idol)
- 2. oshiteiru aidoru no kodomo (Children of the idol you support)
- So this title refers to both Ai’s children (Ruby and Aqua) and Ai’s fans (Goro and Sarina)
- Without a doubt this duality comes to him that neither paints when we find out what the plot is about, what if?
Synopsis of Oshi no Ko
16-year-old Ai Hoshino is a talented and beautiful idol who is adored by her fans. She is the personification of purity, but all that glitters is not gold… Gorou Honda is a gynecologist from a rural area and a big fan of Ai. So when the pregnant idol shows up at his hospital, he’s more than surprised. Gorou promises him a safe delivery, but he doesn’t know that an encounter with a mysterious figure would result in his untimely death, or so he thought.
Opening his eyes, Gorou finds himself on his beloved idol’s lap and discovers that he has been reborn as Aquamarine Hoshino, Ai’s newborn son! With his world turned upside down, Gorou soon discovers that the entertainment industry is full of adversity and that talent doesn’t always breed success.
