Washington police arrested a Texas man outside Vice President Kamala Harris’ official residence, the United States Naval Observatory, in the nation’s capital on Wednesday and he is now facing weapons and ammunition charges.
A spokesman for the Washington Metropolitan Police said officers responded “at approximately 12:12 pm, in the 3400 block of Massachusetts Avenue, NW in reference to a suspicious person according to an intelligence bulletin that originated in Texas, who was detained by the US Secret Service.
Law enforcement officers contacted the man after a regional intelligence bulletin was issued for the suspect.
Police say officers arrested and prosecuted Paul Murray, 31, of San Antonio, and that they recovered a rifle and ammunition from his vehicle.
A police report obtained by Citizen Free Press shows that officers allege that Murray was in possession of an “AR-15 semi-automatic rifle, 113 unregistered rounds of ammunition, and five 30-round magazines.”
According to the police, he has been charged with several charges: carrying a dangerous weapon, carrying a rifle or shotgun outside of a business, possession of unregistered ammunition, and possession of a large capacity ammunition feeding device.
The United States Secret Service told Citizen Free Press in a statement that agents from the Uniformed Division detained the man before the Metropolitan Police arrived on the scene.
A Secret Service official says none of the agency’s protégés were at the residence at the time of the incident.
