Venezuelan Luis Arráez became the first player in Marlins history to hit for the cycle on Tuesday, leading the Miami team to victory over the Philadelphia Phillies.
Arráez, the sixth Venezuelan to collect each of baseball’s established categories of success, hit a double in the first inning, a triple in the sixth, a home run in the seventh and a single in the eighth to complete his historic performance.
The Venezuelan finished the game with two runs scored and two RBIs, Cuba’s Jorge Soler scored and RBI and Yuli Gurriel two runs scored and an RBI added to the Marlins’ win, which was earned by Peruvian southpaw Jesús Luzardo (2-0), who pitched six three-run innings and struck out five batters
Kyle Schwarber with a solo home run and Bryson Stott with two RBIs were game bests for the Phillies.
