After a suspension, the trial of the man accused of the murder of an 11-year-old girl in Little Havana resumes, an event that occurred in 2014 but now the alleged murderer could obtain the death penalty if convicted.
Marta Guzmán’s life was short because when she was only 11 years old, her mother’s ex-boyfriend, Miguel Ruiz Lobo, allegedly murdered her.
Ruiz Lobo was soon found to be a suspect by police because he showed up at the crime scene to try to talk to police and was also filmed entering and exiting the crime scene.
The video shows the moments outside the apartment before, during and after the murder. The owner of the camera was a neighbor, a friend of the accused, who called the alleged murderer: “El Temerario”.
The name El Temerario comes from one of the bands they listened to together, because the suspect likes to sing, so his friend named him that.
In June 2014, the neighbor saw his friend enter the apartment where the girl lived, around the time she was murdered.
This Monday in court and after questioning, the man told the police.
– Do you see this man in this video?, they asked him.
– Yes, said the man.
Can’t you see his face? How do you know it’s him? As you know it?
-The way he walks and we meet our neighbors.
Once they took him to the police station and with his head resting on the table, he was questioned about facial scratches, to which the accused said he was with friends and knew nothing.
Police believe the girl tried to defend herself and scratched the man before she was killed. If convicted, the man could face the death penalty.
