Miami Police are looking for a driver who hit and left a man in his 30s seriously injured in Little Havana, Globe Live Media reporting.

The report indicates that the victim was struck while crossing the street near a bus stop, located on 8th avenue, between 6 and 8 in the southwest.

The driver fled while the passerby was left on the pavement with serious injuries, mainly to one leg, which warranted an emergency transfer to Jackson Memorial Hospital.

The authorities did not reveal the identity of the victim, nor information about the driver and the vehicle involved in this accident.

The Miami-Dade Police request that the general public communicate any information to find the suspect’s whereabouts to the Stop Crime line 305-471-8477.

Last February, the Miami Commission announced a comprehensive road project in Little Havana in order to reduce accidents and give more safety to pedestrians.

The plan is to limit speed to 25 miles per hour, widen sidewalks, improve intersections, put up more signs, install special crosswalks, and prohibit right turns when the light is red.

Little Havana is the area with the most accidents in all of Miami-Dade County in the last five years.

Statistics from the Miami Department of Transportation indicate that in that period there have been almost 300 traffic accidents and 12 deaths.
