U.S reached 28,409,036 confirmed cases of the coronavirus SARS-CoV-2 and 508,088 deaths from covid-19 disease, according to the independent count from Johns Hopkins University.

This balance at 20.00 local time (01.00 GMT on Saturday) is 2,046 more deaths than on Thursday and 72,203 new infections.

The president, who came to power on January 20, promised 100 million vaccines in his first 100 days in the White House.

California is now the state hardest hit by the pandemic with 51,629 deaths, followed by New York (47,389), Texas (43,235), Florida (30,624), Pennsylvania (23,895), New Jersey (23,192) and Illinois (22,675).

Other states with a large number of deaths are Georgia (17,219), Ohio (17,183), Michigan (16,438), Massachusetts (16,024) or Arizona (15,897).

In terms of infections, California has 3,557,158, followed by Texas with 2,642,236, third is Florida with 1,898,223, New York is fourth with 1,624,213 and Illinois is fifth with 1,183,569.

The provisional death toll -510,134- far exceeds the lower limit of the initial estimates of the White House, which projected in the best of cases between 100,000 and 240,000 deaths due to the pandemic.

The new president of the United States, Joe Biden, has predicted that in total more than 600,000 people in the country will die from the virus.
