The United States had administered more than 165 million doses of COVID-19 vaccines in the country as of Sunday morning and has distributed about 208 millionthe Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) said Sunday.

The figure compares with the 161,688,422 doses of vaccines the CDC said had been injected as of Saturday and the 207,866,645 doses distributed.

The agency said 106,214,924 people have received at least one dose of the vaccines, while 61,416,536 had completed the process as of Sunday.

In the last 24 hours, more than 4 million doses of the coronavirus vaccine have been administered, representing a new record, as reported by the CDC. In addition, Saturday was the first of the last seven days to exceed 3 million vaccinated.

Cyrus Shahpar, COVID-19 data director at the White House, celebrated with a tweet early Saturday afternoon. “Wow, record reporting day! 4.08 million doses have been administered ”, Shahpar wrote. “First day with 4 million or more. It is also the first time that an average of more than 3 million doses per day has been recorded in the last week. Millions of people are coming together to accelerate our progress towards controlling the pandemic, ”he added.

Anthony Fauci, President Joe Biden’s chief medical adviser on COVID-19, was also optimistic: “If people continue to wear masks, avoid crowds and let the vaccination program do its job, life will return to normal in the US more quickly”

“We are going to get to where people want to be, where I want to be, where you want to be – the moment we have enough people protected with vaccines and we can go out and enjoy the warmer weather,” the celebrated epidemiologist told Jim Acosta from CNN Saturday. “It’s going to happen,” he insisted hopefully.

And once transmission rates drop sufficiently, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention will issue revised guidelines on what fully vaccinated people can safely do, Fauci said. “This is not going to last forever because every day that 4 million, 3 million people are vaccinated, it gets closer and closer to control,” he said. “So what we say is that we must redouble the bet. Hold on a little longer, and the vaccine and vaccines in this country are going to outweigh the rise of the virus. There is no doubt that the vaccine will win.

The CDC figure includes the two doses of the Moderna Inc and Pfizer / BioNTech vaccines, as well as the one-dose Johnson & Johnson vaccine as of 6:00 am ET Sunday.

A total of 7,742,126 doses of vaccines have been administered in long-term care facilitiesthe agency said.
