‘ La Serpiente ‘ is a new mini series that has hit Netflix . Starring Tahar Rahim , it tells the story of Charles Sobhraj , a con man and criminal who ended up being a serial killer who hit Southeast Asia during the 1970s.

This mini series was broadcast on BBC 1 , based on real events that occurred in 1975 and 1976, prior to his arrest in India. The plot focuses on his romantic relationship with Marie Andreé Leclerc , although his crimes began a long time before. He was one of Interpol’s most wanted men.

The bikini killer

Charles Sobhraj was born on April 6, 1944 in Saigon , now known as Ho Chi Minh, in the former French Indrochina . Son of an Indian father and a Vietnamese mother. His life was spent between Vietnam and France . His first admission to prison was recorded in 1963, after being accused of robbery.

In prison he met Félix d’Escogne , a billionaire with whom he lived after leaving prison. In the early 1970s, he married Chantal Champagnon , with whom he had his only son. The couple moved to Asia where the crimes began. The crimes began as minor, but soon after began the smuggling of vehicles and armed robberies.
