This Monday at a press conference, the American Soccer Foundation announced a private donation of $5 million that will see the development of 50 mini soccer fields in Miami Dade by 2026. Just in time for the World Cup soccer world.
The pledge officially launches the county’s sports initiative. A $10 million campaign will benefit and dramatically increase gaming opportunities for minors in disadvantaged areas and will also be supported by The Children’s Trust of Miami Dade.
The long-term project will focus on improving access to play and improving the health and well-being of at least 36,000 children by 2030, starting with “Villas del Lago”, a former community development society in Opa-locka, where surveys have indicated that a large proportion of its residents want access to the sport of football.
At the moment, the sites where the dozens of mini-courts that will be available in the next two to three years will be located are being identified.
