The countdown to the future premiere of the first prequel of The hunger Games has already started. There are “only” 8 months left. And even if it may seem exaggerated, it’s an insignificant amount of time considering the 7 years that we have been waiting for this new opus since the first time we heard about the project.
The last stage of the study was to show the poster of the film which does justice to the title of the feature film which will be released on November 17: The Hunger Games: Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes. And how could it be otherwise, fans and fans of the franchise descended to the smallest detail using the magnifying glass to pay attention to every pixel in the image. “Is the bird a mockingjay?”, “And this arrangement?” or “I saw the message, mom” are among the most striking.
The new film will be set 64 years before Katniss Everdeen offered herself as a tribute and Coriolanus Snow became President of Panem. This new film will star Tom Blyth who is the last hope of his declining post-war bloodline. As part of this, being a good student, he will be assigned as a mentor to the District 12 tribute, Lucy Gray Baird (played by Rachel Zegler).
Thanks to the charisma and unique voice of her participation as a member of the traveling band of musicians Covey, she would become an audience favourite. From there, Snow will see the opportunity to change their destinies, and will join the young woman to turn the tide in her favor. The man will race against time to survive and reveal whether he will finally become a songbird or a serpent.
Hunther Schafer, Josh Andrés Rivera, Nick Benson, Laurel Marsden, Lilly Cooper, Luna Steeples and Hiroki Berrecloth complete, for now, the cast confirmed by the production company.
As I said, the beginning of the project can be dated to 2015 when the first rumors of these prequels start ringing loudly in Hollywood. The reason was pretty simple to understand: the more than $2.5 billion the franchise has raised to date from its four films. The idea was risky since it would not have the participation of Katniss Everdeen, managing to lighten the payroll in the cast, but with the impressive action of the survival tournaments which brought Snow to power by subduing the different districts.
The story of The Ballad of Songbirds and Serpents (as the book was called) told the life of a young Coriolanus Snow, played by Donald Sutherland in the film adaptations of The Hunger Games directed by Francis Lawrence. This prequel, which will also be directed by Lawrence, will explain how Snow became the horrible president of Panem.
