NEW YORK – After a weekend of severe weather that saw multiple tornadoes touch down in New Jersey and lightning strikes in the New York area, world trade center In Manhattan, more rain is expected to hit the tri-state area.
First, the overland flow returns on Wednesday, bringing with it fog, drizzle and a cool feeling. It lasts all day.
On Thursday, near-record temperatures are expected in the 70s and even the low 80s in some places.
Central Park and LaGuardia are likely to surpass April 6 daily highs. The two records date from 1947 and stand at 79 and 80 respectively, against their forecasts of 77 and 76 degrees on Thursday.
This heat helps prepare the atmosphere for strong to severe thunderstorms later in the day.
At this point, it looks like severe weather will occur between 3:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m. Damaging winds are the main threat to this system right now, although a lot could change.
The entire tri-state area is under threat from potentially severe weather, though the threat of damaging winds is intensifying south of the city, where several communities are still struggling to clear debris from Saturday’s tornadoes.

Temperatures drop again once the system settles, but we should still see highs in the low 60s for what should be a mostly sunny Good Friday. The temperatures drop a little more on Saturday, but the sun is holding, and will also hold on Easter Sunday.
