NEW YORK – Authorities are investigating a disturbing sexual assault in the Bronx,
A 68-year-old woman walking down the street was dragged into a garage and assaulted and received no help from any witnesses, according to police sources.
The ordeal occurred shortly after 6 a.m. Saturday near the intersection of East 189th Street there Webster Avenue in Fordham Heights, police said, a few blocks from the Fordham University campus.
The victim was expecting a friend to pick her up near Fordham Square when the suspect assaulted her.
Police released footage on Tuesday of the man they say grabbed her at dawn, then grabbed her by the neck before assaulting her inside the garage. He tried to take off her clothes, but couldn’t, and instead forced her to perform a sex act on him.
The suspect then fled and headed south on Third Avenue, police said. He was last seen wearing an orange hoodie with dark blue jeans and was described as around 5ft 2in tall with a stocky build.
What worries many residents of the community, according to law enforcement sources, is that people saw the attack but never intervened or even called 9-1-1.
The woman was taken to hospital with injuries and is expected to recover.
A cash reward is offered for information leading to an arrest.
