The Etxepare Basque Institute has opened the deadline for submitting applications for the selection of various positions for the Basque language and culture at universities in the United States, Germany, France, and Georgia until next 30th.
According to data from Etxepare, collected by Europa Press, the position of reader for the Freie University of Berlin in Germany (2021) requires being in possession of a university degree (or license) and having the level C1 (PL3) or equivalent of Basque and have accredited the B2 level of English and the A2 level of German.
Priority will be given to the Bachelor’s Degree or Licenses in Basque Philology, Basque Studies or Translation and Interpretation (Language to: Basque) and master’s degrees in these subjects, as well as having an accredited level of C2 in Basque or PL4. The teacher will have a workload between 19 and 20 hours per week.
For its part, the selection of a reader for the Ivane Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University (TSU), in Georgia, has a budget of 10,000 euros.
It is a requirement to have a Degree or Licenses in Basque Philology, Basque Studies or Translation and Interpretation (Language to: Basque) or a degree or license in Humanities, Social Sciences or Letters (for example, languages, philosophy, history, linguistics, translation) and a Master in Humanities, Social Sciences or Letters.
ENGLISH LEVEL
You must also be in possession of a certificate equivalent to PL 3 or C1 of linguistic competence in Basque and have at least a C1 level of English. In the case of those who do not have an English degree, the University may conduct an interview with the candidates, once the Etxepare Basque Institute has proposed the candidates.
Master’s degrees in Basque Studies will be prioritized, as well as having an accredited level of Basque C2 or PL4, and articles or conferences in the linguistic field
For its part, the selection of a reader for the Universities Sorbonne Nouvelle and Sorbonne Université de Paris will have a budget of 34,195 euros. Of these, it will be 32,500 euros per course at the Sorbonne Nouvelle Université and 1,695 euros per course at the Sorbonne Université.
To do this, it is necessary to be in possession of a university degree (or license) and have level C1 (PL3) or equivalent in Basque and have an accredited level B2 of French.
The University may submit candidates to a test to demonstrate whether or not they have that level, in the case of those who do not have a French certificate, once the Etxepare Basque Institute has made the candidate proposal.
In addition, it is required to have a Master’s degree. Priority will be given to the Bachelor’s Degree or Licenses in Basque Philology, Basque Studies or Translation and Interpretation (Language to: Basque) and master’s degrees in these subjects, as well as having an accredited level of C2 in Basque or PL4.
UNIVERSITY OF CHICAGO
To apply for the position of reader at the University of Chicago, endowed with $ 54,794, you must be in possession of a university degree (or license) and have level C1 (PL3) or equivalent in Basque and have accredited level C1 of English.
Priority will be given to the Bachelor’s Degree or Licenses in Basque Philology, Basque Studies or Translation and Interpretation (Language to: Basque) and master’s degrees in these subjects, as well as having an accredited level of C2 in Basque or PL4.
Finally, the selection of a reader for the German University of Leipzig, which has a budget of 38,100 euros, requires to be in possession of a university degree (or license) and level of Basque C1 (PL3) or equivalent and to have at minus the level of German B1.
Regarding the level of German, the University may submit the candidates to a test to demonstrate whether or not they have that level in the event that they do not have a German certificate, once the Etxepare Basque Institute has made the candidate’s proposal.
In addition, they must have accredited experience in teaching languages, especially valuing the experience in teaching Basque.
Priority will be given to the Bachelor’s Degree or Licenses in Basque Philology, Basque Studies or Translation and Interpretation (Language to: Basque) and master’s degrees in these subjects, as well as having an accredited level of C2 in Basque or PL4. Experience in sociolinguistics, language policies or cultural management will be especially valued.
