The Polk County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a triple shooting that left one dead and two injured on Sawfish Drive in Poinciana. The two survivors who were shot are in critical condition.
In a press release, authorities said one of the survivors was a man who had been shot several times, including in the face. The 30-year-old man is in critical condition.
The second person is a 19-year-old woman, who is also in critical condition.
Authorities say the woman and man were in a Nissan Altima when an altercation began with Dreck “Ice” Bacote.
Bacote went to the front of the house where the shooting took place to confront one of the victims, whom he had called earlier and asked to meet to “fight” for a mutual girlfriend.
When Bacote arrived on the scene, he walked home and was met by the man in the hospital. Then Bacote hit him.
As the altercation escalated, Bacote pointed a handgun at Victims 3 and 4, and Victim 5 shot Bacote from the garage.
A person, who lives in the house in front of which the shooting broke out, ran towards the residence because his children, aged 3, 4, 9 and 12, were inside.
For unknown reasons, Bacote then turned on the Nissan and fired several shots at the car.
The hospitalized man walked away slowly and crashed into the mailbox next door, ran across the street, through a fence on the other side of the street and stopped in the court.
Officers found Bacote dead in the front yard of the Sawfish Drive home. Two other witnesses fled the scene, while the resident of the house remained and cooperated with the investigation.
