Eichiro Oda Today, he has one of the most gigantic artworks in all of manga history in “A play“. The story about how Monkey D. Luffy intends to become the Pirate King with his Straw Hat Pirates is, of course, a fast-paced adventure, which perfectly references everything that the you would expect from a story in the style of the sea. But… it wasn’t always like that, and the timing of the manga’s release was brutally tense for the author.
The launch of the One Piece manga was one that angered its author
Been @sandman_AP who shared an anecdote about the original release of the manga from “One Piece” which I really think is worth sharing with all of you:
- The first volume of One Piece manga has been released on 1997… and it was an event that led a lot of insecurity to Oda-sensei himself and his publisher.
- That’s why they both decided hiding in a bookstore to spy on his customers (It is not specified which library or where exactly).
- Indeed, such was the level of nervousness with One Piece’s debut that they decided to check for themselves if anyone had ended up buying the manga… and it happened.
- After some time after starting their operation, they saw how a guy bought this first volume of One Piece manga. At this precise moment, the natural reaction of Eiichiro Oda and his author was none other than start screaming with joy.
- The anecdote, of course, is clear proof that even the greatest of geniuses always has humble beginnings, especially in a field where it is so difficult to survive like the manga industry.
I think this is one of my favorite stories from what I’ve come to read around “One Piece”. It seems impossible to imagine that Eiichiro Oda was someone so concerned about the success of his job back in the day that he had to go to a physical store and see if there was really anyone there. gave it a chance. I wonder if the guy who bought the manga at the time came to read this anecdote about the author of “One Piece”because of course of the small mouth which it is necessary to have.
