NEW JERSEY – Money contaminated with an unknown substance led to the hospitalization of several Newark, New Jersey bank workers after they fell ill on Tuesday, according to the city’s director of public safety, Fritz Fragé. .

The strange events took place shortly after noon at a Wells Fargo bank on Lyons Avenue. That’s when Newark police were responding to the bank after a call about a possible incident with hazardous materials, according to Frage.

Apparently, a man walked into the bank and handed a cashier some money contaminated with the unknown substance. The bank was later evacuated after several employees said they were unwell, Fragé said.

Three employees were transported to Newark University Hospital for evaluation. According to Fragé, the victims are in stable condition.

This incident is still under investigation.
