NEW JERSEY – A storm approaching our area could finally bring snow to New York with just weeks to go until the end of the winter season. However, other parts of the tri-state area, including much of the Hudson Valley and northern New Jersey could see more than half a foot of snow associated with this system.
The forecast for the forecast changed slightly towards the end of the weekend, now showing greater potential for snow in and around the metro area than predicted last week. At this point, New York and Long Island, which are under a winter weather advisory, could see 3 to 5 inches of snow, although sleet and rain are likely to mix on occasion.
Temperatures in the city might also be expected to affect snow totals, but snow can fall regularly overnight to push temperatures above freezing and actually give totals to measure in the five counties. Up to 8 inches are possible for parts of New Jersey, and a winter storm watch has been issued for areas of Passaic and Morris counties where heavier snow bands are expected.
