Now yes! Disney has released a new preview of the new adaptation of The little Mermaid. After months of speculation (and with fans waiting for the factory to deliver a teaser during the Super Bowl), we finally got to see new footage from one of the most desired movies of the year.
This Wednesday, February 15, Disney fans got what they’ve been asking for for months: to see a new preview of the film. And it lived up to expectations! We leave it here:
In this new look, which begins similarly to the teaser we saw in September 2022, we got to see new elements from the movie for the first time. In addition to Halle Bailey as Ariel, who moves like a fish in water, literally!, there’s Prince Eric played by Jonah Hauer-King. The preview, as we can see, belongs to the recreation of the famous scene of Ariel and the prince in the lake (when Sebastian the crab sings Kiss her).
A world full of life
But this new teaser brings us new details about what the world Ariel lives in will be like as a mermaid. Considering Disney’s biggest headache for this movie was how they were going to recreate the depths of the ocean, we have to admit they did a great job.
Also, in the teaser, we can see an image of Ariel’s sisters. That in this new film they will represent the seven seas.
Finally, the teaser contains one last surprise: the first image of Melissa McCarthy as the wicked witch Ursula. A whole moment.
A cast full of familiar faces
In addition to Bailey, The Little Mermaid will have a cast made up of all kinds of profiles. For his inseparable Sebastián and Flounder, there will be the voices of Daveed Diggs (Hamilton) and Jacob Tremblay (Luca); and for Scuttle, Awkwafina (Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings). Prince Eric will play Jonah Hauer-King (One of the Family), while Sir Grimsby and Queen Selina will play Art Malik (Homeland) and Noma Dumezweni (Mary Poppins Returns). Finally, two of the stars of the entire cast will be Úrsula, played by Melissa McCarthy (My Best Friend’s Wedding) and Spaniard Javier Bardem (El Buen Patrón).
It is obvious that this new version will once again benefit from all its musical potential -in addition to the voice of Halle Bailey-, in addition to keeping its best sailor friends. It’s clear that The Little Mermaid will bring back the Disney classic that many grew up with, but with a much more updated look that some will enjoy out of nostalgia, and others, taking advantage of to make Ariel their favorite first movie princess. .
The Little Mermaid opens May 26, 2023 in theaters.
