NEW YORK – New York City is in mourning after the death of Puerto Rican Polito Vega, known for his great radio career.
“El Rey de la Radio”, as many know him, was part of the station’s team LaMega 97.9, who announced his death Thursday morning via social media. They did not reveal the cause of his death.
“It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved Polito Vega. We cannot express how much we will miss him, but we are grateful for the time we had to share with him and the legacy he leaves in the world of radio. We send our condolences to his friends and family. Rest In Peace, Polito Vega “The King of Radio,” the station said.
Vega was born in 1938 in Puerto Rico and arrived in New York in 1959, according to the Daily News. The first advertiser program was in 1906 with the “Fiesta Time” program.
