Authorities arrested the mother of three children, all under the age of 5, who were found dead Saturday inside an apartment in Los Angeles, the police reported.

Liliana Carrillo, 30, was arrested in Tulare County, more than 170 miles north of Los Angeles. It is not known at the moment if she had a lawyer who made statements on her behalf.

The children’s grandmother found the bodies when she returned home from work and noticed the mother’s absence, Los Angeles Police Lt. Raul Jovel said.

The Los Angeles Police Department tweeted that the children appeared to be under the age of 5. A police spokesman initially said they were less than three years old.

Dozens of residents experienced a nightmare when a man unleashed a police raid in Reseda.

The terrible discovery occurred around 9:30 a.m. at the 8000 block of Reseda Boulevard, Jove revealed.

“My heart is broken,” said Dayna Campbell, a resident of a Reseda neighborhood. “Every time I see news like this about children, my heart breaks into pieces. And now, it’s like right in front of my building, it’s amazing.”

The Los Angeles County Department of Children and Family Services (DCFS) is part of the investigation and was at the scene Saturday, but police did not say if the children’s father had been located or if there were some problems in the past with DCFS.

According to the police, initial reports suggest that the children were stabbed, although no official cause of death has been released.

Investigators were continuing to work to determine a motive, Jovel said.

Carrillo is the prime suspect in the homicides, according to homicide investigators.

The department received reports that Carrillo was driving her vehicle northbound on Interstate 5 when she was involved in an altercation in the Bakersfield area. He got out of his vehicle and seized another, according to Jovel.

Carrillo was detained in the Ponderosa area of Tulare County, about 100 miles north of Bakersfield, police said.

“At the moment she is a suspect in this incident, without ruling out other people,” said Jovel.
