The Chanel designer Karl Lagerfeld died on February 19, 2019 at the American Hospital in Paris
On February 19, 2019 the fashion world was dressed in mourning. The eternal Karl Lagerfeld passed away as a result of pancreatic cancer and left behind an impressive legacy that very few will manage, at the very least, to match. Karl’ is the book written by Marie Ottavi about the iconic Chanel and Fendi designer that came out last September. In this work, the writer has told how were the last years of the German in which, despite his illness, he never lost his essence.
Lagerfeld’s last moments took place at the American Hospital of Paris, located in Neuilly-sur-Seine, on the outskirts of the city. However, he lived for years at 51 rue de l’Université, in the 7th arrondissement.
The ‘Libération’ journalist revealed that the couturier was scheduled to attend the Fendi fashion show in Milan and the Chanel show in Paris, held days after the previous one. He could not, he was “so weak that everything weighs a ton in his hands,” says Ottavi, who relies on the testimony of his nurse in the biography.
Karl, with no appetite, spent his nights in the hospital. The doctors forbade him to travel to Milan, and he, without a hint of his rebellious character, accepted. But he NEVER lost his characteristic humor: “Karl says to the nurse: ‘It’s still stupid to eat three rolls and end up in a room as rotten as this one,'” Marie recalls.
Just the day before his death, Lagerfeld asks to speak to Silvia Fendi, who found him better than expected. It wasn’t. On Tuesday, February 19, in the early hours of the morning, he could no longer react to what was being said to him, losing his life at 10:20 am.
