“Jimmy is the perfect host for our 95th episode. His love of movies, his experience of live television and his ability to connect with a global audience will create an unforgettable experience for our millions of viewers around the world.”
With these words, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences announced last November that Jimmy Kimmel is once again the host of the Oscars gala, which is held this Sunday, March 12 at the Dolby Theater in Los Angeles.
The major film festival thus recovers one of the figures forgotten by the pandemic: in 2019, 2020 and 2021 there was no presenter and last year, actresses Amy Schumer, Regina Hall and Wanda Sykes took on the role.
This This isn’t Jimmy Kimmel’s first time leading the awards show the most famous in the audiovisual industry. He did it in 2017 and 2018 – he also presented the Emmys in 2020 – galas that did not go unnoticed since the presenter took advantage of this global showcase to attack Donald Trump.
In 2018, after seeing audience data from the ceremony, the then US president tweeted avengingly: “Oscars with worst viewership EVER. Trouble is, we’re out of stars, apart from your president, of course (it was a joke, of course)”.
Kimmel’s response was immediate: “Thank you, lowest rated president in HISTORY.”
The great TV star
Jimmy Kimmel is one of the great stars of American television thanks to your program Jimmy Kimmel Live! And late at night ABC channel interviews. Space celebrated its 20th anniversary last January and continues to be one of the most relevant on American television and a global benchmark, as many of its sketch and the interviews went viral on social media.
In 2018, the comedian was chosen by the magazine Time as one of the 100 most influential people of the world.
In front of Kimmel sat the most important personalities of the world. From Joe Biden to Barack Obama, including actors Jim Carrey and Joaquin Phoenix, pilot Lewis Hamilton, American footballer Tom Braddy and singer Jennifer Lopez. Some, like the actress Jennifer Aniston or the actor George Clooneyvisited the program several times until they befriended the well-known comedian.
Two of our most international actors were also invited to the program: Penelope Cruz there Javier Bardem. “The great Javier Bardem rocks like Mick Jagger!” they wrote on the show’s Instagram account the day the Oscar-winning Spanish actor confessed he loves rock.
Your neurological disorder and your child’s illness
Although Kimmel was born in New York, on November 13, 1967, at the age of 9, he moved to live with his family in Las Vegas. He is the eldest of three brothers in a family with strong Catholic values, which led him to be an altar boy.
On several occasions he spoke of narcolepsy disorder he has suffered from since he was a child, an alteration in the mechanisms of sleep that causes drowsiness during the day and can condition the lives of people who suffer from it. Kimmel even joked about one of the benefits of suffering from it and assured that he was able to easily fall asleep on a plane and wake up feeling refreshed.
And if talking about his problem he is able to have a smile, it is the opposite that happens when he talks about the illness of the youngest of her four children: he had two with his first wife — actress Katie Kimmel and comedian Kevin Kimmel — and two others with the screenwriter Molly McNearneywhom he married in 2013.
When little Billy, now five, was born, he himself told in a video, with tears in his eyes, that he was born with congenital heart diseasewho made him undergo several surgeries, the first of them three days after his birth.
Sincerely grateful to the medical team caring for his son, in 2019 he published a children’s book entitled The serious goosewhose profits were allocated to the Children’s Hospital of Los Angeles where little Billy is being treated for his illness.
