AnimeBox is the new anime streaming platform offered by Selecta Visión, and it obviously has its pros and cons
Anime is increasingly consolidating itself as essential entertainment in the streaming platform market. This is the case with dedicated platforms such as Crunchyrollin addition to others working on content as they may be Netflix or Disney+, the truth is that the “on-demand” anime supply was stronger than ever. Thus, Selecta Visión has finally penetrated said market with AnimeBoxits own anime streaming service about which one important question should be asked:worth subscribing?
What AnimeBox offers its users
- First of all, it is obvious that the main objective of AnimeBox is to enjoy the animes of Selecta Visión that have an official license. Among these it is possible to find franchise content such as Naruto, Dragon Ball, Tokyo Ghoul and more.
- The platform offers both anime series and movies, but not only: they are available for fans. extras in the form of an interview as well as anime openings and endings and, logically, a way to quickly and easily access its official store (in case anyone is interested in getting the physical editions of the anime).
- One of AnimeBox’s great strengths is that, despite with 4 subscription formulas, logically 3 being paid, they also have one totally free. But what is in this plan? Well, especially the ability to watch anime in COMPLETELY FREE Simultaneous Streaming. Indeed, all the series that Selecta Visión acquires to broadcast at the same time as in Japan will be accessible to everyone by simply creating a user account at AnimeBox.
Does the content of AnimeBox measure up to the catalog of Selecta Visión?
- Personally, I was hoping that with the launch of AnimeBox from Selecta Visión, they would prepare their entire catalog to make it available for streaming. Ultimately, if you offer people subscription payment plans in which to offer your catalog of content, The minimum is that this content catalog be as attractive as possible. But this is not the case.
- At least from the start, AnimeBox presents a very limited offer of content in its catalog compared to what we know of Selecta Visión. Without going any further, there is no trace of Dragon Ball, Dragon Ball Z or Dragon Ball GT. Not only that, but the material for series like Naruto is also incomplete, and feature films like Your Name are completely absent.
- Is it possible that AnimeBox eventually has more content in its catalog? Without a doubt. In the end, it all comes down to what has been said: we are more than aware of the potential that the Selecta Visión catalog presents, but it is a problem that the platform sees light with a few hours of activity in which more anime content like Naruto and Shingeki no Kyojin can be found on other platforms such as Prime Video.
Is it worth subscribing to AnimeBox?
- Obviously it’s too early to judge the platform, but I must say that First of all, I didn’t get a particularly good taste in my mouth with the catalogAgain, because I know everything Selecta Visión has in terms of licensing. Does this mean that I do not recommend AnimeBox? Not exactly.
- First of all, obviously I recommend 100% at least to register and subscribe to the Konnichiwa plan, which is the one that is available to everyone completely free of charge. With this alone, you can access the simulcast and also take a look at the anime that is in the AnimeBox catalog, which will surely help more than one person to make another more adventurous decision.
- On the other hand, and I’m not saying this to joke, if I had to choose a payment plan, it would be the ‘Kami-sama’, which is the one that costs 79.99 euros per year… only now it is for 39.99 euros. Indeed, at the moment the most expensive subscription to AnimeBox is for a little more than the equivalent of 3 euros per month. But there are more for which I recommend this option:
- If the AnimeBox catalog is below expectations at launch, chances are that If there are noticeable changes, these occur in the relatively long term.. Therefore, selecting a monthly subscription at launch may fail.
- Supporting Selecta Visión with the Kami-sama subscription can also help them take more chances with AnimeBox in the future. At the end, the presence of its Simulcast must be taken into account, and although this content is free, it will obviously be the one who can aspire to more things the better it will be for the company.
As a last comment, I would say that I hope AnimeBox doesn’t have the idea of being a platform with which to start an anime series (paid) and then only be able to finish watching it by paying for the physical format. I say this because, apart from the series I mentioned, others like “Yu Yu Hakusho” only has 25 episodes available so far.. I think the idea of creating AnimeBox is correct and the direction in which Selecta Visión should move, but at first I can’t say I was excited about the execution.
