A home in Hialeah has been destroyed after a fire that broke out early Wednesday morning left an 83-year-old woman homeless.
Hialeah firefighters responded to the scene after receiving a 911 call around 3:00 a.m. A neighbor reported that there was smoke and possibly a fire at the house at 3455 East 1st Court in the city, where an elderly woman lived alone.
The 83-year-old claimed the neighbor who called her helped her out of the house, firefighters said. He also told Telemundo 51 that his pet, a puppy who also left home unharmed, started barking so he realized something was wrong.
Fire crews arrived and confirmed a shed fire which spread to the house and caused extensive damage. After the work of controlling and extinguishing the fire, the firefighters declared that the dwelling was not safe and that it was not possible to return to the house.
The causes of the fire are under investigation. The elderly person was receiving help from relatives, including a son, who had moved there.
