I don’t know how it would be in your case, but I had a great feeling of emptiness in my body after finishing the first season of the series. The last of us. The HBO adaptation by Neil Druckmann and Craig Mazin became an international hit and quickly many people were trying to find games, movies or similar series that could become the great surrogate in the story of Ellie and Joel. If you haven’t found the right one for you yet, you might be interested in what I have to say about Celestial illusion.
Last week, the first anime of the spring season started showing, and although the vast majority of the public expect works like Jigokuraku, Kimetsu no Yaiba or Ranking of Kings, personally I would recommend trying Heavenly Delusion. Especially to those who enjoyed The Last of Us and wanted more. Because? Let me explain it to you.
Heavenly Delusion, an anime similar to The Last of Us
In the anime section My partner Cristian compared Heavenly Delusion to other Japanese series like The Promised Neverland or Attack on Titanand while I agree with that, I think it also shares a lot of similarities with The Last of Us.
- Heavenly Delusion tells us the story of Maru and Kiruko, two young people trying to survive in post-apocalyptic Japan while looking for an idyllic place called Eden where they could live in peace
- In The Last of Us we see a fairly similar two-person journey, and we also have to add that in this anime Kiruko plays Joel, as she is a girl who accepted the task of bringing Maru safely to Eden
- Of course the relationship established between the two characters is not the same than that of the protagonists of TLOU, however is built the same way (complete strangers who end up developing very strong feelings for each other)
- And the post-apocalyptic world of Heavenly Delusion has zombies?: Not exactly, what it has is a series of monsters who feed on people and pose a threat to the human race
- What I think is important to point out is that this anime features a ruined Japan designed like the cities of The Walking Dead and The Last of Us: to survive, you have to loot food, weapons, and supplies from other people’s shops and homes while protecting you from bandit attacks who want to steal your resources and satisfy their carnal desires
Where can you watch Heavenly Delusion?
It’s an anime streaming exclusively on Disney+and every Saturday afternoon a new episode comes out that you can see in good quality and with Spanish subtitles. If you want to find it in the catalog of the platform, I recommend that you do so by searching for it by the name of “Tengoku Daimakyou” (its original title in Japanese).
Do you also see similarities with The Last of Us? I would like to know your opinion!
