At least five people, including a child, were left homeless after a fire broke out at a Plantation apartment on Wednesday morning.
Plantation firefighters said the fire started around 5:15 a.m. at a complex on Sunrise Boulevard and 47th Avenue in the southwest (SW) portion of the city.
Crews arrived to find a first-floor apartment engulfed in flames before it spread to a second-floor unit. The fire was quickly brought under control and extinguished, but both units were deemed uninhabitable.
No injuries were reported during this incident. The state fire marshal is investigating the cause of the fire, while the American Red Cross is helping affected families.
