Last week we published news about it, according to some FIFA 23 Ultimate Team pro players, Edwin van der Sar is the best goalkeeper. But since his TOTY Icon card has a huge cost (more than a million coins), we figured most people wouldn’t want to spend that much.
For this reason, I used the Prime version in previous FUT Champions. It’s another expensive item, but not so over the top (at least in the general market, on PC it’s also very expensive). So I leave my impressions here.

He’s one of the best goalies I’ve used in Ultimate Team and especially I emphasize its regularity. In that sense, it matches a lot of normal lenses, but when I used it, it didn’t make any gross mistakes. He was not the protagonist of the typical failures that are sometimes seen even in high average goalkeepers.
However, I don’t think this is recommended for most FIFA 23 users. Because even though it works better than other much cheaper options, the difference isn’t huge. And so, unless your budget is very large, I doubt it justifies this expense.
Maybe using Edwin van der Sar Icon Prime could win you a few more matches, but it also shouldn’t completely change your results in online modes of the Ultimate Team. And I imagine for a lot of people, 600,000 coins is a huge chunk of their budget. Ý They’ll probably appreciate these pieces a lot more if they’re used on a field player they’ll be controlling more frequently.
I guess, if you are a professional player of FIFA 23, it will be interesting to make a quality leap in the objective and that’s why they will be ready to spend more money. But for people who are not dedicated to competition, I don’t think it’s worth doing such a transfer unless you have a lot of coins.
For most Ultimate Team users, we recommend using more humble goalkeepers who also perform decently most of the time. AND use leftover coins to sign tier cards in other eleven positions, or save them for future occasions. Because personally, I think it’s more pleasant with a top outfield player than with a top goalkeeper.
So Edwin van der Sar Prime is convincing in the game, in my matches he didn’t make a lot of amazing saves but he did I really appreciate your regularity. That in an entire day of FUT Champions, he made no gross mistakes.
But It doesn’t represent an impressive leap in quality either. compared to other regular goalkeepers in FIFA 23. And for this reason, I don’t recommend it to almost everyone, as the price difference is not justified on the pitch.
