For years, the planet has been asking for a break, or what amounts to the same thing, a good dose of pampering to end the climate crisis. Precisely for this reason Saturday March 25, a very important event takes place: Earth Houran initiative that serves to raise awareness of climate change and consists of turning off the lights of all buildings and monuments for one hour in all corners of the world.

Since LOS40 we join this initiative for another year by turning off the lights of the studios and the newsroom, and with which we invite all readers to do the same from their respective homes.

What is Earth Hour and why is it so important?

Despite the fact that Earth Hour is in itself a symbolic gesture, its message goes much further, trying to raise awareness of how, in recent years, extreme temperatures and the lack of resources in the environment They are killing life on the planet.

This initiative was born around 2007 in Sydney by the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF), although little by little it managed to raise awareness among a large part of civilization in different parts of the world. So much so that it ended up becoming much more than a wild initiative a global movement this is what has led to the celebration of Earth Hour every year, as one more action in the fight against climate change.

It’s one more opportunity to remember that nature is our way of life; que nos regala todo aquello que necesitamos, desde el aire que respiramos hasta el agua con el que nos hidratamos, pasando por all los alimentos que comemos, y que deberíamos defenderla con uñas y dientes para proteger la salud de nuestro planeta y, por tanto, ours.

When and at what time is the global blackout?

As usual, this initiative takes place on the last Saturday of each month and this year it will be this Saturday March 25. The end is none other than turning off the lights, either from the comfort of home or from the workplace between 8:30 p.m. and 9:30 p.m. peninsular time. Thus, the blackout will last exactly one hour and after that we can reconnect the electronics and lights at home.
